CAMPAIGN MANAGER, FAMILY IMMIGRATION

ASIAN AMERICANS ADVANCING JUSTICE

Location: Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Washington, DC (preferred)

This is an exciting opening for a year-long, part-time consultant to coordinate the efforts of a multi-organizational campaign in defense of family-based immigration in the United States. The campaign manager would help lead the efforts of Asian Americans Advancing Justice (Advancing Justice) and several partner organizations (campaign in formation), to defend against the alarming escalation of attacks on America’s family-based immigration system and empower Asian American and other affected communities to advance an inclusive vision for immigration to the United States.

Advancing Justice is a national affiliation of five leading organizations advocating for the civil and human rights of Asian Americans and other underserved communities to promote a fair and equitable society for all. The affiliation’s members are: Advancing Justice – AAJC (Washington, D.C.), Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus (San Francisco), Advancing Justice – Atlanta, Advancing Justice – Chicago, and Advancing Justice – Los Angeles.

The Campaign Manager will combine significant project management work with strategic thinking on shifting narratives about family-based immigration; rapid response and digital communications; and community engagement and mobilization around federal immigration policy.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Campaign Manager will help to design and implement overall strategy and drive key shared initiatives of a year-long campaign around family-based immigration. This position will report directly to a campaign steering committee comprised of senior leadership staff representing the Advancing Justice affiliation and other key organizational partners (campaign in formation). The position is part-time and currently budgeted for one year.

The principal responsibilities of the Campaign Manager are as follows:

  • Lead strategic planning and execution around joint efforts of the campaign. Support the steering committee and working groups in setting overarching goals and priorities for the campaign.

  • Work with experienced teams and leaders representing the campaign’s partners as well as other campaign consultant(s) to advance joint strategies and priorities around community engagement and mobilization, strategic communications, and building a broad coalition with other organizations championing family immigration.

  • Coordinate joint meetings and activities of multiple organizations forming the campaign, in addition to Advancing Justice; drive results; and ensure that deadlines are met and deliverables are completed.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least four years of experience in a related advocacy, policy, coalition management, or campaign position, as well as a demonstrated knowledge of immigration issues.

  • Preference will be given to individuals with a demonstrated record of work in pushing back against anti-immigrant initiatives or with similar work experience that involved campaigning for racial justice and/or immigrant rights.

  • A proven track record of project management is required, as well as experience managing high-level partners—from a range of organizations—toward the production of deliverables.

  • Demonstrated capacity to work well in a team environment, collaborate, build consensus, identify points of contention, and drive toward joint decisions.

  • Strong attention to detail and self-initiative; the ability to plan ahead and set priorities.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience with the use of digital media in campaigns would be a plus.

  • Deep commitment to advancing the interests of low-income immigrants and other underserved communities, and appreciation for the larger role of Asian American communities in shaping an inclusive democracy and equitable future for all.
