September 8, 2014 (ATLANTA, GA)- Jerry Gonzalez, Executive Director of GALEO, released the following statement today in response to President Obama’s decision to delay relief for immigrant families.

“GALEO is very disappointed with President Obama’s political decision to delay immigration relief to immigrant families and communities. Despite President Obama’s promise on June 30th that he would act on his own at the end of the summer because of the lack of leadership and inaction in the U.S. House of Representatives, the President has chosen to break yet another promise to the Latino and immigrant communities.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

The decision to delay administrative relief will have serious consequences as thousands of families across the nation will be needlessly torn apart and possibly deported because of President Obama’s delaying tactics.

Despite the broken promises over six years of his Presidency, Latino and immigrant communities will continue to work for administrative relief, while also working to create an environment for a permanent fix to our broken immigration system by a Congress who would be willing to do its job. We will hold Congressional members and politicians accountable as well for their inaction and encouragement of the Presidential delay.

The Latino vote will continue to grow and must be respected, by all parties. It must not be taken for granted nor neglected by either party.”
