GENERAL DESCRIPTION  

The Logistics Specialist will work on a team (2 Logistics Specialists to be hired) to support the management of inventory of purchased and donated household and personal-care items for newly arrived refugees’ homes. This will include ensuring the safe and reliable transport of these items, such as picking up donations from donors, purchasing and receiving items for vendors, managing within storage facilities, loading and unloading from trucks and other vehicles, and moving into apartment homes. The Logistics Specialist will support sorting and processing, recording, and tracking all in-kind donations in accordance with agency and other standards, including coordinating with appropriate case managers and development staff for tracking and reporting, and working with volunteers assisting in this process. The Logistics Specialist will also support relationships with housing providers for newly arriving refugees, finding and advocating for safe, clean, and affordable housing. This will include identifying new housing options, creating and maintaining relationships with housing providers (typically, apartment complexes), negotiating rent amounts and contracts, supporting tenants with basic apartment maintenance, and advocating on behalf of tenants as needed.

This position will operate under a shared-service agreement among 3 resettlement agencies: Catholic Charities Atlanta, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Georgia and Florida, and New American Pathways. For the initial 3 months of employment, the position will rotate among the agencies monthly, focusing on learning the similarities and differences among the ways in which agencies undertake this work. The 2 Logistics Specialists will periodically report out on preliminary findings. After spending a month with each agency, they will inform a report on recommendations and other considerations for the eventual consolidation of systems and storage space by the agencies.

The Logistics Specialist will be supervised and managed day-to-day the current hosting agency. As the fiscal agent for the shared-service agreement, New American Pathways will be the employer of record for this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  
  • Prepare apartments for incoming arrivals, including stocking all required household and personal care items and assembling and placing all furniture.
  • Handle donation inventory, including organization of items and accurate record keeping, using paper forms and electronic spreadsheets, databases, and information-sharing systems. Organize storage facility for ease of loading, locating, and unloading items. Maintain an organized and sanitary facility. Monitor equipment condition and maintain equipment logs. Dispose of unusable (e.g., unsuitable, broken, surplus) items according to agency policies/procedures and relevant requirements.
  • Help volunteers that are assisting with sorting/processing of donations.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks and maintain accurate vehicle logs. Maintain clean vehicles, and monitor vehicle performance, include refueling and taking for regular maintenance. Advise appropriate point persons of pending vehicle inspections, insurance renewals, or any defects or problems.
  • Drive box trucks, both empty and loaded. Adhere to vehicle policies and procedures.
  • Load and unload vehicles responsibly, ensuring safety and security of passengers and items, especially large and heavy items (e.g., furniture).
  • Use material-handling equipment (such as hand trucks and dollies) in a safe manner to perform regular duties in storage facility and loading and unloading items to/from storage facility, vehicles, client homes, and donor locations.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES  
  • Valid driver’s license (class C), clean driving record, and competence driving box vans/trucks.
  • Ability to pass a background check and be around clients, including minors.
  • Demonstrated experience with inventory management, warehousing, or donation coordination.
  • High level of organizational skills and customer-service skills.
  • Energetic and positive attitude conducive to working on a small team.
  • Ability to work and interact well with individuals (staff and volunteers) from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Working familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel and ability to learn database/customer-relations-management (CRM) programs (e.g., Salesforce) quickly; CRM experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift at least 75 lbs. by oneself or at least 150 lbs. with another person, repeatedly in short periods as required moving furniture, including up and down stairs, on, and off trucks.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills: the ability to work effectively with partners, donors, colleagues in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time Good basic math skills.
  • At least 18 years of age.
COMPENSATION  

This is a full-time hourly position at $15.00 an hour. Employer contributes to medical, dental and vision insurance.  Employer pays life and disability insurance.  Fourteen (14) paid holidays and a generous paid time off policy.  Employee has the option to contribute to 401(k).
