Adelante!
The election is over and the American people have selected Donald J. Trump as the next President of the United States of America. While we as a nation need to accept the judgement of the American people through the election results, we will not accept intolerance.
The Presidential campaign of 2016 will go down in history as one which stoked lots of hatred and fear. The hate and fear are still there. Some feel emboldened to act out their intolerance due to the hateful rhetoric during the campaign season. However, the campaign is over and we do expect President-elect Trump will work to tamp down the divisions and work to unify our nation. As a community, we will stand up against intolerance and bigotry.
Latinos all across this nation and even in Georgia came out and voted in strong numbers like never before. That level of engagement must continue. We will stand united to demand respect for all within our communities and our families. The full analysis of the Latino vote will take some time to assess, but records were broken when Georgia Latino voter turnout for early voting indicated a 144% increase from 2012. There is a lot for us to be proud of that we accomplished together.
We will stand with our immigrant brothers and sisters during these challenging times. We are standing firm with our values of inclusion and family. Love is stronger than hate. We must work together, unidos as a community, but we must also work with our allies. We will stand with UNIDOS with our immigrant families, with our Muslim brothers & sisters, with the African American community, with GLBT families, with single women, with refugee families and with working families across the nation. This nation is strong and our community is also strong and resilient.
The work began on November 9th, 2016. We must not allow fear and complacency to chart the future. We owe it to ourselves and to our children to move forward and continue to work to make this nation a more perfect union for us all.
Our communities need YOU now more than ever.
Will you join us in our work?
Will you help move our nation and our community ADELANTE?
Join us. The work has started and we will keep you engaged.
There are many ways to get involved. Please do so and help us build a movement that will be felt in our state and nationally.
Gracias y un fuerte abrazo!
