Your help is needed at Naturalization Ceremonies on Fridays! Help us register new voters!

Many people will become U.S. citizens this year and will need to register to vote.

Last year leading up to the 2014 election, we registered over 7,000 New Americans at naturalization ceremonies.  So far, we have registered over 1,900 voters this year.  Volunteers are needed on Fridays to help us with this initiative. Please volunteer if you can!

There are many options in July for ceremonies on Fridays this year at USCIS in Tucker, GA and other places.  Are YOU able to volunteer with us any on Fridays?  Let us know by sending an email to samuel@2014old.galeo.org to confirm your participation.  Please let us know the time frame of your availability on Fridays and please provide your cell phone number too.  Typically, the sessions are scheduled for 8 AM, 11 AM and/or 1 PM.  We will coordinate with you on which of these you can volunteer for.  Also, we will follow up with you with more details once you confirm.  Feel free to invite friends too!

There will be training necessary for all volunteers before going to the naturalization ceremonies.  If you have any questions, please send an email to Samuel Aguilar, GALEO Program Coordinator at samuel@2014old.galeo.org for more details.

Support needed for DACA/DAPA lawsuit!   Petition included and your promotion of it online is necessary!   See below ASAP!
Last week, Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti launched an online petition in support of President Obama’s immigration executive actions currently being held up in court due to the Texas v. USA lawsuit. The petition will be delivered to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday, July 9th (oral arguments will be held on July 10th). Mayor Garcetti’s team is circulating this petition far and wide with the hopes of showing the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals the overwhelming support across the country from a variety of stakeholders for executive action.

Even though hundreds of legal experts have confirmed that these executive actions are constitutional, the lawsuit continues to block implementation of the programs. Expanding DACA and implementing DAPA will have a net positive impact on cities, states, and the country as a whole. The executive actions would add an estimated $41 billion in new tax revenue to our nation’s economy of the next 10 years. If every eligible person applied for and was granted DACA and DAPA, over the next decade the U.S. GDP would increase by $230 billion, adding 290,000 jobs.

What you can do:

1)      Sign and share the petition (http://www.lamayor.org/daca_works)  by COB Today (Monday July 6th) to stand up for the American Dream and millions of immigrants looking to strengthen our nation;

2)      Promote and distribute this petition to all of your members, contacts, and other constituencies through social media.

If promoting through social media, here are some sample tweets:
