Advocacy Email: Thank you! Calls needed to continue to build momentum for in-state tuition for GA DREAMers.

April 7, 2015

Advocacy Alert

Thank you all for your engagement this legislative session.  SB6, the bill that would have banned access to DL’s for deferred action immigrants was soundly defeated in the Georgia Senate.  Furthermore, momentum has increased for SB44, the initiative to provide in-state tuition for GA DREAMers.  Your actions made that possible.  We need to keep the pressure up and continue our efforts.  Please see below on how you can continue to get involved.

Please stay connected.    Encourage others to join our email advocacy efforts by having them send a text with the word “GALEO” to the number 22828.  This process would ask for their email and they can start getting these emails directly.
Stay more engaged and connected at www.facebook.com/GALEO.org. Updates are posted daily on what is happening regarding immigration & what you can do to stay informed and engaged.
Looking for a new career or job opportunities?   Please check out our website and share with others.  Link is here:  http://2014old.galeo.org/category/professional-development/

Georgia DREAMers will continue their work on SB44 and they need your help!  Please make a few calls this week to keep momentum going!
Please call 1-844-885-2793 and support SB44.

SB44 would allow for in-state tuition for GA DREAMers that meet strict requirements.

This number has been set up to direct calls to Georgia Senators on the Senate Higher Education Committee.  The calls will connect you with the Senators in their district phones now that they are in session.  This phone number is active for all of April!  Your calls can make a difference.  Please call and then circulate the number widely to generate much needed support for Georgia DREAMers on SB44.

Thank you for stopping SB6!

The legislation would have banned access to driver’s licenses to those who qualify for deferred action under #ImmigrationAction and would also deny it to victims of domestic violence. It would also have authorized DMV to collect your DNA.

SB6 was assigned to the Georgia Senate Public Safety Committee.  It did not get a committee hearing.  Furthermore, Sen. Josh McKoon (R) attempted to attach the language of his bill to other legislative initiatives in the final days of the Georgia Legislature and he failed due to bipartisan opposition in the Georgia Senate.  YOUR phone calls and engagement made this possible.  Thank you!  Please stay informed and educated on these issues as we get ready for this to come back in 2016.

GALEO joins 150 groups to defend #ImmigrationAction
