Advocacy Alert
The Georgia Legislature has started already. So far, we have one bill (SB6, Sen. Josh McKoon R-Columbus) that we are tracking that seeks to deny access to driver’s licenses to those who qualify for DACA and DAPA under President Obama’s #ImmigrationAction. The legislation also seeks to give permission to DMV to collect DNA samples. Stay tuned for action alerts targeting our efforts to go against this legislation.
In Congress, House Republican leadership, along with U.S. Rep. Doug Collins (R-Gainesville) have proposed legislation that would eliminate President Obama’s #ImmigrationAction. This would directly attack GA DREAM’ers who have already qualified and any new potential applicants. Fortunately, this legislation would have a difficult time to get 60 votes required in the U.S. Senate; but, we must be vigilant and work to ensure we contact our Senators.
Your voice and engagement will be needed soon. Encourage others to join our email advocacy efforts by having them send a text with the word “GALEO” to the number 22828. This process would ask for their email and they can start getting these emails directly.
