Advocacy Alert

YOUR VOICE made a BIG difference in ensuring that SB6 did not advance in the GA Senate Public Safety Committee.  Thank you!  We will continue to monitor developments to ensure we protect access to driver’s licenses to all who qualify for deferred action status.

Your voice and engagement is still needed to ensure we can expand access to college for Georgia DREAMers.  YOUR phone calls are needed.  See below for details.

Stay tuned with our calls to action on facebook because things move fast in the last few days of the Legislature at the Georgia Capitol.  In addition, Congress is looking at SIX anti-immigrant initiatives this week alone.  Stay tuned!

Please stay connected.    Encourage others to join our email advocacy efforts by having them send a text with the word “GALEO” to the number 22828.  This process would ask for their email and they can start getting these emails directly.

Stay more engaged and connected at www.facebook.com/GALEO.org. Updates are posted daily on what is happening regarding immigration & what you can do to stay informed and engaged.

Thank you for helping stop SB6 (so far)!
The legislation would ban access to driver’s licenses to those who qualify for deferred action under #ImmigrationAction and would also deny it to victims of domestic violence. It would also authorize DMV to collect your DNA.
SB6 was assigned to the Georgia Senate Public Safety Committee.  It still has not gotten a committee hearing and did not get over the Cross Over day deadline, which means it remains a viable legislative initiative for 2016 and parts of it could be added on to other driver’s license legislative initiatives.  We will be monitoring this and alert you should something happen these next few days.

YOUR phone calls made a big difference! Thank you!

Georgia DREAMers are working hard on SB44 and they need your help!  Please make a few calls this week!  Please call 1-844-885-2793 and support SB44.

This number has been set up to direct calls to Georgia Senators.  Later, this call in number will be directed to the Georgia Senators on the Georgia Senate Higher Education Committee.  Your calls can make a difference.  Please call and then circulate the number widely to generate much needed support for Georgia DREAMers on SB44.

SB44 would provide for deferred action students to be eligible for in-state tuition.

A dangerous bill is quickly making its way through the Georgia General Assembly, and we need your help to stop it.

The so-called Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) is a bill that would allow any person or business the ability to ignore laws-including non discrimination laws, domestic violence laws and child welfare laws-under the guise of religious freedom.

Already, we’ve seen the consequences of this dangerous bill unfold-where just recently a doctor in Michigan refused to treat a newborn of a lesbian couple because he said it violated his religious beliefs.

Simply put: we must defeat this bill that will open the doors to discrimination in Georgia. So we’re joining together at the Georgia State Capitol on Tuesday, March 17th at 12pm SHARP to rally in opposition to this “license to discriminate” RFRA bill.

Click here to stand with us and make your voice heard.

WHO: Concerned Georgians who stand against discrimination

WHAT: A rally to defeat RFRA once and for all

WHERE: Liberty Plaza at the Georgia State Capitol
Capitol Ave SW, Atlanta, GA 30334

WHEN: Tuesday, March 17th, Noon – 1:00 pm

Our opponents are trying to claim that this bill is about protecting religious freedom. But religious freedom is already protected in both the U.S. and Georgia Constitutions.

Make no mistake-the real intent of this bill is to ensure that gay and transgender Georgians can be legally treated as second-class citizens.

Discrimination against anyone is wrong. Now, it’s time to show lawmakers that the people of Georgia overwhelmingly oppose this shameful bill.

With little time to waste, we need to stand united in opposition to RFRA. Click here to say you’ll rally at the Georgia State Capitol on Tuesday at noon.

If you cannot attend, please call the number below.

SB129 RFRA – 1-855-982-2729
Message on the Phone Line: Currently, the House Judiciary Committee is waiting to hear the so-called “Religious Freedom” bill.  But legal experts have warned that this legislation could open the door to discrimination against gay and transgender Georgians and jeopardize women’s health and children’s welfare.  In a moment, you’ll be connected with your state representative – tell your representative to vote NO on SB129.
