These emails are sent out to keep you informed about actions, engagement and opportunities for getting involved in 2016!

We are excited about the momentum we have for accomplishing great things for our communities in 2016.  YOUR help will be needed!

Today, the Georgia Legislature begins, and unfortunately, they are considering several anti-immigrant initiatives.  We will be calling attention to these and we will need your help.  Please take a moment to post on social media the following message:  “Friends, help support GALEO by taking action against anti-immigrant initiatives.  Text the word GALEO to the number 22828.”  All who do this will be entered into our email advocacy emails.  More information will be posted soon.

Please find ways to get involved and become supportive of our efforts for 2016!

GALEO and the GALEO Latino Community Development Fund have accomplished a lot in 2015!  With your help and support, we can keep our efforts going in Georgia to promote greater civic engagement and leadership development of the Latino community.  Please consider making a tax deductible donation to the GALEO Latino Community Development Fund!

National Immigration Law Center information for our immigrant community on Know YOUR Rights

From NILC:  The new year began with immigration authorities arresting and detaining Central Americans who entered the U.S. after January 1, 2014. These are people-overwhelmingly mothers and young children-who fled violence in their home countries and who should be protected rather than terrorized and deported.

From reports, it appears that immigration agents are primarily going to people’s homes, as well as picking people up from work and public spaces, and using aggressive and sometimes deceptive tactics.

It is important to prepare yourself and others for these raids. NILC has created a raids alert in English and Spanish that describes how to report a raid, find a person in detention, and find legal help. (The alert can also be downloaded as a PDF in each language.) It includes links to know-your-rights materials in Spanish and English, as well as a description of protections for detained Salvadorans based on the Orantes injunction.

The #GALatinoVote grows in strength and numbers!  Help us engage our community and encourage them to vote.

The Georgia Latino Vote has grown a LOT!  In 2003, when we started as an organization, there were only 10,000 Latinos registered to vote.  The latest estimate of the Latino electorate puts that strength at over 220,000 voters.

Voter Registration Deadline is on Feb. 1, 2016 for the Georgia Presidential Primary Election in March 2016!

Have you been following the Presidential Primary contest?

Well, your VOICE & VOTE will be needed in March 2016.  Deadline to register to vote in the March 2016 Presidential Primary is February 1, 2016.

Please check if you are registered to vote here:
http://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov

If you are NOT registered to vote OR if you have moved, you should register to vote online at www.GALEO.org.

The #GALatinoVote grows stronger every day.  Join the efforts to have a high Latino voter turnout in Georgia’s Presidential Primary and make a difference in the outcome of who the candidates will be for the General Election in November 2016.

Georgia has an open primary process.  This means that on Election Day in March 2016, you get to choose which political party primary election that you want to participate in.  You can choose the Republican or Democratic primary and then select the candidate you want.  If you have questions, please call us at 1-888-54GALEO.

Judge Dax Lopez being considered to be the 1st Latino federal judge out of Georgia

On July 30, 2015, President Obama nominated Judge Dax López to serve as a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, to the seat vacated by Judge Julie E. Carnes, who was elevated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. His nomination is currently pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee.  He would be the first Latino appointed to such a position from Georgia.  He needs your support. Please sign the petition that was started by Yovany Jerez, a Georgia Latino millennial conservative who supports Judge Lopez’s appointment.
