GRASSROOTS ADVOCACY ASSOCIATE

aggressive grassroots action plans in support of immigration reform.

Headquartered in downtown, Washington, DC, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is an organization with nearly 14,000 individual attorney members who practice and teach immigration law. For our members, we provide continuing legal education, information, advocacy, professional services and expertise.  Founded in 1946, AILA’s mission is to promote justice, advocate for fair and reasonable immigration law and policy, advance the quality of immigration and nationality law and practice, and enhance the professional development of its members.

 

Your role –

This position is responsible for coordinating grassroots activities related to AILA’s advocacy agenda, and facilitates efforts to strengthen and broaden AILA’s chapter advocacy initiatives.

 

As an active member of our advocacy team, you role is accountable for developing and implementing grassroots advocacy for AILA attorneys nationwide; working with local chapters to strengthen and broaden advocacy initiatives; serving as a conduit between AILA national and AILA chapters on advocacy issues, and working with AILA chapters to develop local advocacy strategies; coordinating and leading AILA’s annual National Day of Action; identifying and developing tools to strengthen AILA members’ ability to involve networks in grassroots advocacy; and providing staff support for chapter-related advocacy initiatives, including preparing materials developed by AILA national for grassroots distribution; and maintaining AILA’s advocacy Twitter page, webpages, and the Immigration Politics blog of current events.

 

Your background –

Bachelor’s degree or higher. 3-5 years of experience as an ‘issues-based’ grassroots organizer with strong networking and leadership skills.  Excellent writing, research, public speaking and verbal communication skills.  Working knowledge of the legislative and political process.  Experience working on legislative campaigns desirable.  Ability to work with and create campaigns centered on serving a diverse membership. Experience working with professional associations or other constituent-based organizations.  Experience in the field of immigration preferred.
