The Southern Poverty Law Center launched its Southeast Immigrant Freedom Initiative in March of 2017, in collaboration with American Immigration Lawyers Association, the American Immigration Council, the Innovation Law Lab, and the American Immigration Representation Project. This project aims to provide pro-bono representation to immigrants detained in detention centers in the Southeast. The SPLC has a long history of fighting to protect the civil rights of vulnerable populations in the southeast and we are excited to drastically increase representation in the southeast, where nearly all detained immigrants currently lack representation.
