City of Atlanta – Director, Welcoming Atlanta Initiative

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Mayor’s Office of the City of Atlanta is looking for an experienced
professional with a background in immigration policy and program management
to oversee the City’s immigrant and refugee integration work and create an
infrastructure to better integrate Atlanta’s rapidly growing immigrant
community.

Reporting to the Chief Service Officer, the Director will be responsible for
implementing the Welcoming Atlanta 2014 Plan-a set of 20 recommendations
proposed by the Mayoral Welcoming Atlanta Working Group and approved by
Mayor Kasim Reed.

RESPONSIBILITIES & FUNCTIONS

.         Implement the Welcoming Atlanta 2014 Plan and develop measurement
models to track progress and effectiveness of recommendations;

.         Develop a publicly available annual or strategic plan;

.         Manage the Welcoming Atlanta Advisory Committee;

.         Prepare a budget for the initiative;

.         Develop streams of federal and private funding to support high
priority initiatives;

.         Serve as the community liaison between the City of Atlanta and the
immigrant and refugee community, as well as the receiving community;

.         Leverage the work of local nonprofits and identify partnership
opportunities;

.         Build capacity within city government for immigrant and refugee
integration and coordinate this work across agencies, including forming and
maintaining regional relationships;

.         Develop education and cultural events to engage the receiving
community and to highlight and promote Atlanta as an international city;

.         Drive and coordinate the creation of a community-wide
pro-diversity/welcoming city communications campaign;

.         Track state and national immigration policy and develop new
municipal policies and/or programs accordingly;

.         Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR DIRECTOR

.         5-7 of immigration policy experience and/or an advanced degree

.         Excellent research and writing skills

.         An understanding of the national, state and local climate as it
relates to immigration

.         Ability to engage diverse stakeholders in developing and
implementing a shared strategic vision

.         Experience in setting goals and measuring outcomes

.         Outstanding time management and organization skills

.         High level of confidentiality and professionalism

.         Work or volunteer experience with diverse communities, preferably
in metro Atlanta

.         Bilingual

.         Bachelor’s degree is required
