Latino Program Director
Faith in Public Life is a national strategy center for faith leaders working for social justice and the common good. FPL is seeking a Latino Program Director to build and lead a robust program that engages Latino clergy in both progressive policy advocacy and civic engagement.
From health care reform in 2009 to the 2014 Executive Action on immigration, FPL has worked behind the scenes to help faith leaders become game changers in key policy debates. In addition to national communications work around the Fast for Families and Nuns on the Bus, FPL has also focused on advancing initiatives in key states. FPL also pioneered a groundbreaking congregation-based ‘Faithful Voter’ turnout program in Georgia, and now plans to expand this effort to additional states.
FPL’s Latino program has two main components: 1) mobilize and amplify Latino faith voices around progressive immigration policies, and 2) spearhead a ‘Faithful Voter’ GOTV program in Latino churches and other faith-centered groups in the Latino community.
The Latino Program Director will be responsible for:
· Designing and leading FPL’s Latino clergy civic engagement and policy strategies.
· Building and maintaining relationships with key clergy and national partners.
· Identifying advocacy and earned media opportunities for Latino faith leaders, as well as formulating plans and coordinating execution.
· Organizing coalition meetings, conference calls and trainings that advance program goals.
· Liaising with partner organizations, national Latino organizations, labor unions, and key faith organizations.
· Recruiting, training and managing contract staff for short-term projects.

The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is comfortable wearing several different hats:
· Organizing/Convening: Ability to quickly build trust with a broad array of faith and organizational leaders and mobilize them to act together on a coordinated plan. Someone who can convene and lead high-level conversations with organizational heads and keep them focused on executing plans to reach big picture goals. Someone who can make friends fast, fearlessly call strangers, listen and be persuasive. Ability to communicate effectively across different faith traditions. Someone who can appreciate and relate to viewpoints other his/her own.
· Political/Press: Ability to spot an advocacy or press opportunity and jump on it. Ability to think strategically about which messenger will influence a key decision maker. Someone who follows the news closely and thinks about what makes a great news story.
Skills Needed:
· 5 years experience working in issue advocacy, organizing and/or campaigns on the national or state level.
· Experience designing successful issue campaign strategies and knowledge of how to leverage cutting-edge communications to impact issues.
· Fearlessness in building relationships and unconventional alliances.
· Ability to parlay successful actions into generating new relationships and
opportunities.
· Collaborative, can-do attitude, and professionalism under pressure.
· Fluency in English and Spanish.
· Experience working with faith community not required, but willingness to
work with faith networks valued.
· Passion for the faith community’s contribution to social justice and the
common good.
