Teen Center Coordinator (Part-Time 10-16 hours a week)
The LaAmistad Teen Center Coordinator is responsible for supporting the middle and high school after-school program at Peachtree Presbyterian Church. Teen Center Coordinators are primarily responsible for instructing students in an after-school, classroom setting.
Responsibilities
Assist middle and high school students with literature, grammar, math, Latin, science and social studies. Support them with developing interpersonal skills to help them improve their overall academic performance. This will largely include assisting students with completing assigned homework.
Manage the classroom in a positive manner. Follow all LaAmistad procedures and enforce the student’s expectations. Keep the students on task and discipline if needed.
Follow all policies and best practices in accordance with the Site Director Handbook.
Work with leadership staff to plan educational activities that are consistent with the mission of the program. Evaluate the needs and interests of the students, and adjust if necessary.
Effectively retain students through enthusiasm, teaching skill and patience.
Manage evaluation and assessment procedures specified by leadership staff.
Track the progress of individual students weekly and provide regular reports to LaAmistad.
Ensure safety and security for the students enrolled.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in college with experience tutoring and mentoring teens
Able to obtain First Aid/CPR training within one year
Mandated reporter training required
Ability to command respect and cooperation in a middle or high school classroom
Confidence to run a classroom alone
Ability to build relationships with families and staff and create a dynamic environment for students to learn and thrive
Desired Skills and Attributes
B.S. degree in education or related field
Minimum of two years working with students, ages 11-18 in an afterschool or school setting
Fluency in Spanish a plus
Accountability
The Teen Center Coordinator is hired by Executive Director and reports directly to the Executive Director who is responsible for his or her performance evaluations.
Compensation
The specific amount is based on qualifications. This position works part-time through the months of September through May with a range of 10 to 16 hours per week, 4 afternoons per week Mondays – Thursdays. This position also may require occasional night and weekends.
