Coordinator of Political Campaigns
The Coordinator of Political Campaigns will assist the Political Department of PFAW in overseeing key political and issue campaigns of People For the American Way’s political program. The Coordinator will research demographic trends, candidate backgrounds, and help prepare strategy documents and recommendations for the political department; coordinate the political, communications, and field components of campaign plans, working as necessary with state-based partners and consultants; and serve as a liaison to key stakeholders and decision makers. This position is based in Washington DC.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic advice and assistance to the Political Department on all issue and political campaigns
- In collaboration with staff coordinate the implementation of component parts of the campaign plans
- Help coordinate Latino outreach efforts for PFAW and act as liaison with outside organizations to further PFAW’s Latinos Vote! campaign efforts
- Serve as a spokesperson for the Latinos Vote! campaign
- Coordinate with the Communications Department on strategies to gain earned media attention for our political campaigns
- Analyze and report on national, state and local electoral trends that have an impact on issues and constituencies of importance to PFAW with an eye toward maximizing PFAW’s impact on target races and issues
- Research and analyze candidate issue stances and prepare background memos for PFAW’s Voter Alliance PAC and Action Fund.
- Assist in collecting, tracking and assessing the field and political plans of table partners and candidates
- Manage the data needs of the political department and analyze campaign results and metrics to fine tune future campaigns.
- Work with the Political Department to coordinate paid media campaigns including targeting of direct mail, television and radio advertising and phone scripts
- Coordinate knowledge sharing of political activities across all departments
- Supervise Political Department interns
- Assists in other duties and assignments
- Provide Political department with logistical help and coordinate schedules throughout the department when necessary
Qualifications:
- Minimum two years experience in campaigns or political advocacy group including hands on experience with campaign communications
- Ability to design and implement effective political programs
- Willingness to travel
- Ability to research and write background documents for candidate and issues memos
- Ability to track and build excel databases of candidates and political races
- Knowledge of electoral and legislative processes
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Experience with effective grassroots fundraising and field efforts
- Experience handling multiple deadlines under tight timeframes
- Ability to work well with diverse groups of people
- Commitment to progressive values and interest in People For’s issues
- Oral and written proficiency in Spanish required
- Minimum of college degree required
