Policy Analyst, National Center on Immigrant Integration Policy
The Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank dedicated to the study of national and international migration policies, seeks a dynamic and experienced individual to work in the Institute’s National Center on Immigrant Integration Policy (NCIIP). The position’s primary functions will be to produce qualitative and quantitative work on a range of immigrant integration topics, with a particular focus on K-12, postsecondary, and adult education policies affecting first- and second-generation immigrants.
Qualifications
Required
Master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree with 4-7 years directly relevant experience or PhD with one year such experience preferred; minimum MA/equivalent degree with 3 years directly relevant experience
Demonstrated knowledge of education policy and practice issues relevant to the success of first- and second-generation immigrant youth and/or English Language Learners in K-12, adult, and postsecondary education
Proven research, organization, and project management skills
Superior writing and editing abilities
Ability to work independently, prioritize, and handle multiple assignments and projects
Demonstrated professionalism and strong judgment
Excellent and mature team player/builder
Comfort with public speaking
Ability to synthesize complex policy provisions and demographic data
Preferred
Prior analytical policy work, qualitative field research, and/or quantitative research in relevant academic, NGO, law, and/or government sectors
Experience in program management including staff supervision and budget management
Relevant publications record
Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages in addition to English
Knowledge of STATA/SPSS or other statistical software tool
Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in design and management of research efforts related to educational success for first- and second-generation immigrants
Research and write policy briefs, reports, articles, etc. working in collaboration with other in-house staff and analysts outside MPI
Conduct qualitative and/or quantitative analyses for multiple audiences, including policymakers, government agency managers, community stakeholders, and others
Plan and execute fieldwork site visits and telephone interviews
Interact with outside scholars, policymakers, and other stakeholders to coordinate program events and activities
Ensure timeliness and accuracy in the completion of project activities
Work collaboratively with other NCIIP staff to secure funding for projects, including writing proposals and grant reports
Represent the NCIIP externally at conferences and meetings as required; deliver presentations for multiple audiences
