Advocacy Alert

Now that President Obama has acted to provide relief to up to 5 million undocumented immigrants, we need to make sure people have the information they need to make informed decisions and to be ready.  Below, we have compiled some resources and information to be shared to those impacted.

Also, there is a reaction from the GA Senate on the President’s immigration action.  Please see below.  Let’s get ready for engagement at the GA Legislature to defeat any anti-immigrant initiatives.

Have you visited our new website re-design?  Please check it out and let us know your thoughts!  Visit www.GALEO.org!  You can also share any of our posting directly from our website to social media.

Stay more engaged and connected at www.facebook.com/GALEO.org. Updates are posted daily on what is happening regarding immigration.

Orale!  Our work together builds towards greater respect for our community & better inclusion of Latinos in Georgia!

Thank you!

GA State Senator Josh McKook (R-Columbus) attacks DACA & DAPA

Georgia State Senator Josh McKoon (R-Columbus) has introduced SB6, “The Georgia Road Safety and Driver’s License Integrity Act.”  His intention is to block access to driver’s licenses to a targeted immigrant population, among other things.  He is taking legislative input from convicted felon, Donald Arthur King.  Please read this link.

GA State Senator Josh McKoon may be contacted at his district office number (706) 442-9130  and is on twitter with the handle @JoshMcKoon.

We will need lots of mobilization on this issue to protect our community further from anti-immigrant attacks that will attempt  to undermine the protections that may be put in place by Pres. Obama.  Please stay tuned for action alerts on this and we will need people to show up in January for taking action and providing testimony against these measures.

Join us at the GALEO Holiday Social on Monday, December 15th!

Donating to a good cause never tasted so good!  Please join us for the 2014 GALEO Holiday Social and our “Tamales for Justice” fundrai ser.  Your donation helps us get ready for the protection of Latino voting rights in our state.  Currently, we are looking at the at-large voting systems in both Gainesville and Dalton.  We believe that these voting systems dilute the Latino community’s ability to elect candidates of choice and may likely be in violation of the Voting Rights Act.  Your donation will help support our efforts in these matters.

We do hope you will join us on Monday, December 15th for our GALEO Holiday Social.  Donation to attend is $50 per person or $25 for students.  Tamales are $35 per dozen.

To RSVP and register your donation to attend the social, please click here.

To purchase tamales, please follow this link.

Date/Time:  Monday, December 15, 2014, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Location:  DelCampo Weber & Grayson, LLC, Dunwoody Farm House, 5455 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30338.
If you cannot attend or would like to purchase tamales, you can still donate to the Latino Voter Defense Fund here.
