Media Relations Associate

VALEO is a rapidly growing communications and public affairs company looking to hire its fourth employee to drive traditional (and some social)l media strategy and execution for a diverse roster of nonprofit, trade association and corporate clients. The successful candidate will be able to develop media strategy, secure client visibility in a range of mediums and drive message creation.

About The Candidate

The successful candidate will provide traditional (and some digital) media guidance to clients, while also helping with messaging and general stakeholder engagement and PR services. They will be responsible for driving media strategy and overseeing communications to reporters and across digital platforms. Activities include developing media plans, overseeing direct reporter engagement, creating messaging and collateral materials, developing client digital programs, and helping with other PR needs.

Primary responsibilities

  •   Create strategic digital and traditional media programs based upon client goals, execute the programs, and evaluate and report outcomes
  •   Develop messaging and materials to help clients effectively communicate in the digital space and with reporters, including: researching and writing briefing materials; composing and editing press releases, client literature, and articles for internal and external use
  •   Provide ongoing counsel to ensure clients effectively communicate their brand values in the digital and traditional media spaces
  •   Build effective client crisis plans and lead response as necessary
  •   Serve as a primary media contact for clients, and build relationships with local, regional,

    national, trade publication and digital outlets

  •   Plan and oversee press events for clients and our firm
  •   Assist in developing VALEO’s brand and marketing platform, and growing the company’s

    visibility in traditional media and on digital platform

    Applicant Requirements

  •   At least three to five years of relevant experience
  •   Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, public relations or other related program
  •   Master’s Degree in communications, marketing or other relevant degree is encouraged
  •   Political campaign and/or PR agency experience or a demonstrated ability to manage a diverse

    client workload and topic areas

  •   Desire to be a part of building an entrepreneurial endeavor

    Benefits

    Compensation is commensurate with experience and the successful candidate will be eligible for a retirement program and annual bonuses. Health care stipend will be added to salary until firm selects a health care plan.
