Reps. Coffman and Gutiérrez introduce companion bill in House of Representatives

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) today reintroduced bipartisan legislation to protect undocumented young people brought to the United States as children should the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program be discontinued under the next Administration. The Bar Removal of Individuals who Dream and Grow our Economy (BRIDGE) Act, which was first introduced in the Senate late last year, would provide temporary relief from deportation and work authorization to undocumented youth. U.S. Representatives Mike Coffman (CO-06) and Luis V. Gutiérrez (IL-04) are introducing companion legislation in the House of Representatives.

Total Latino electorate in 2016: 244,190, 25% increase from 2012 (2012: 183,966)
Voter Participation in 2016: 53.3% (2012: 47%)
4.5% of total electorate (2012: approx. 3%)
- Registered to vote 1,800 new voters (342 were registered online through our website).
- Over 4,000 voter registrations at naturalization ceremonies.
- 9,742 homes contacted and we had 2,776 door conversations.
- 22,457 phone dial attempts and we had 4,595 phone conversations.

Jerry Gonzalez: Good morning. Let me just begin by saying it is truly an honor and a pleasure to be with you today.

I want to thank Dean Mary Beth Walker, for her kind introduction, as well as all of the faculty and staff at Georgia State University Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. I am extremely proud to be able to be a part of this institution’s commitment to education.

Before I do begin with my remarks, I would like to congratulate all of the graduates! Let’s hear it for the graduating Class of 2016! All of your hard work, dedication and perseverance have culminated with the celebrations of today. Once again, congratulations graduates!

Washington, DC – December 6, 2016

On December 5, 2016, the Director of the U.S. Census Bureau issued a notice of determination identifying the jurisdictions subject to the language assistance provisions of Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act, which are available at 81 Federal Register 87532. The new Section 203 determinations, which are described in detail in the Voting Rights Act Coverage Update, replace the previous Section 203 determinations made in October 2011.
