New evidence paints a “disturbing picture” of 2020 census question’s purpose

June 24, 2019—GREENBELT, MD—Today, U.S. District Court Judge George J. Hazel issued an opinion on last week’s ruling stating that new evidence presented in Advancing Justice | AAJC (Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC) and MALDEF’s (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund) challenge to the 2020 census citizenship question “potentially connects the dots between a discriminatory purpose—diluting Hispanics’ political power—and Secretary Ross’s decision.”

Norcross, Georgia – The Supreme Court of the United States, will make their decision in regards to the controversial addition of a Citizenship Question in the 2020 Census. That decision will likely be released on June 17th or June 24th. Center for Pan Asian Community Services (CPACS), Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta (co-chairs, GA AAPI CCC),  Latino Community Fund, and GALEO (co-chairs GA Latino CCC) will hold a press conference on the day the decision is released to provide an explanation of the supreme court decision and next steps for Georgia’s AAPI and Latino communities.

Civil Rights Organizations Contest Finding of Non-Discrimination in Maryland Census Ruling 

Washington, D.C. – Civil rights groups filed a notice of cross-appeal today in their lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s addition of a citizenship question to the 2020 Census.  The filing follows an appeal by the Trump administration of the ruling against the citizenship question.
